Equipped with the Tissue-Tek Genie® Advanced Staining System, Eric and Hélène Bonte can now achieve same-day diagnoses, while it usually takes other labs several days or weeks in the area to produce a complete diagnosis with prognostic and theragnostic factors. Oncologists, gastroenterologists, gynaecologists, dermatologists, and surgeons working with the lab are stunned: "The speed and accuracy achieved in this lab are unparalleled", oncologist Dr Riccardo Samaritani says.

What can be more important than an accurate and timely diagnosis? When every day counts, when there is a patient waiting anxiously for their diagnosis, uncertain of their future, there is simply no room for meddling. This urgency is precisely what drove Eric and Hélène Bonte to consider further optimising their results and rearranging their workflow by introducing Tissue-Tek Genie to their lab.

Lean workflow is key

Doctors Eric and Hélène Bonte are the owners of the small private laboratory of Le Centre Médical de Pathologie, in the city of Compiègne, just north of Paris, France. Knowing time is of the essence to start the patient’s treatment, they are driven to get their patient results as fast and accurately as possible: "With cancer, every day can make a difference because the development and implementation of therapeutic strategy is complex and multidisciplinary. As pathologists, we can make a difference by quickly getting our results to the clinicians so that therapy can start as soon as possible, Dr Eric Bonte says.

Aware of the time pressure, the laboratory is committed to the cause of same-day diagnosesDr Hélène Bonte shares: "Previously, the advanced staining system we utilised in the lab made us faster than competitors in the area, but it still took us up to 3 days to diagnose. Now, we create a lean, efficient workflow, thanks to the 30 independent stations of Sakura’s Genie. With fixed protocols, we can run IHC slides at a unique standard of 2 hrs 45 mins – this predictable turnaround time enables us to achieve that lean workflow and pursue our commitment to delivering same-day diagnoses. Additionally, in case of malfunctioning in one of the stations, we are sure to get results on our other stations, thanks to the fact that all 30 stations work independently".

Quality: the timesaver in many ways

Eric Bonte adds: "The integration of Genie into the lab’s pre-existing ecosystem was seamless. However, obtaining an actual lean workflow asks for flexibility from the technicians in the laboratory. Nevertheless, the personnel were determined to adjust their way of working. We had great support from Sakura in our change process. They have supported us in every step of the workflow optimisation which led us to this great achievement. Without this flexibility of our technicians, this wouldn’t have been possible.”

The exceptionally high quality is seen by everyone involved in pathology. "After the implementation of the Tissue-Tek Genie, we have eliminated the number of re-tests in 2022", Hélène shares proudly. She continues: "This affects everyone we cooperate with. Our technicians experience less pressure because we have zero re-tests, pathologists can make faster diagnoses, and oncologists are very pleased with the optimal quality of stained slides we deliver."
